The incorporation of energy elastic effects in the modeling of flowing polymeric liquids is discussed. Since conformational
energetic effects are determined by structural features much smaller than the end-to-end vector of the polymer chains, commonly
employed single conformation tensor models are insufficient to describe energy elastic effects. The need for a local structural
variable is substantiated by studying a microscopic toy model with energetic effects in the setting of a generalized canonical
ensemble. In order to examine the dynamics of flowing polymeric liquids with energy elastic effects, a thermodynamically admissible
set of evolution equations is presented that accounts for the evolution of the microstructure in terms of a slow tensor, as
well as a fast, local scalar variable. It is demonstrated that the temperature used in the definition of the heat flux is
directly related to the Lagrange multiplier of the microscopic energy in the generalized canonical partition function. The
temperature equation is discussed with respect to, first, the dependence of the heat capacity on the polymer conformation
and, second, the possibility to measure experimentally the effects of the conformational energy.

A new variable inclination shock tube has been set up especially for the visualization of shock induced high speed flows. This device allows for the generation of shock waves of Mach numbers ranging from 1.05 to 4, moving horizontally, vertically from up to down or the opposite, or with any inclination angle. We classify the variable coefficient Kadomtsev—Petviashvili (VCKP) equation into equivalence classes under the group of local
point transformations, leaving the equation form invariant but changing the coefficient functions. We list the representatives
of all equivalence classes with the corresponding transformations. Then, we obtain the symmetry group of the VCKP equation
and in particular discuss how to use these transformations to classify low-dimensional symmetry algebras in the generic case.

The paper addresses the stability of the sliding mode in nonstationary automatic-control systems of variable structure. The parameters of dynamic states are assumed to vary arbitrarily and continuously within a given bounded domain. The existence and stability conditions for the sliding mode on the switching hyperplane are established. They define nonstationary sets that contain phase velocity vectors directed away from the sliding hyperplane. The sets do not have common points with the switching hyperplane, except for the origin, for the known extreme values of the discontinuous coefficients of logical controls. This is the essence of the necessary and sufficient conditions for the stable sliding mode of the automatic-control system. Previous work has demonstrated that the low-Reynolds-number model of Launder and Sharma (1974) offers significant advantages over other two-equation turbulence models in the computation of highly non-universal buoyancy-influenced (or “mixed convection”) pipe flows. It is known, however, that the Launder and Sharma model does not possess high quantitative accuracy in regard to simpler forced convection flows. A variant of the low-Reynolds-number scheme is developed here by reference to data for constant property forced convection flows. The re-optimized model and the Launder and Sharma formulation are then examined against experimental measurements for mixed convection flows, including cases in which variable property effects are significant. 相似文献
